Kale & Cranberry Salad with Sweet Onion Dressing

I have been meaning to post this simple salad recipe for a while now. I made this for a cookout last weekend and it was a hit!

A while ago, I had the tastiest kale and cranberry salad from our local Giant Eagle Market that I wanted to try to recreate myself. The dressing was sweet and when mixed with the kale, dried cranberries and walnuts, it was like a party in my mouth!

I found this bag of shredded kale, broccoli and cabbage from Trader Joe's that I thought would work perfect for my recreation.

I dumped the whole bag of shredded greens (washed) into a large serving bowl.
Then, added some dried cranberries, candied walnuts and chopped pears.
To top off the salad, I used Marzetti's Sweet Onion dressing.

You could also add some cooked chicken or blue cheese to add some protein.

Note: If you are making this for a get together, it's best to chop and add the pears and the dressing right before you serve.

And there you go! My new favorite Summer salad!

Enjoy and Happy Weekend!

Bump-Date // Weeks 0 - 12

It's my first Bump-Date! :)

I have been following along with a few pregnancy blogs and am so excited to join in on the Bump-Date fun!

For those of you who are wondering, no this will NOT turn into a 100% pregnancy/baby blog. It just so happens that this is what is going on in my life and what I am thinking about mostly. So, for the time being, yes I will be posting 1 - 2 times per week about baby/pregnancy stuff. However, rest assured that I will continue posting my fashion finds, recipes, home decor and randomness from my life.

With that said, WOW is there a lot to know about being pregnant. I am lucky to have a group of close friends that have all gone through pregnancy and having their first child to go to for guidance and advice.

We found out we were pregnant on March 30, 2014. This was the same week we got Charlie! A little stressful to say the least, but we were planning to get pregnant so it wasn't too much of a surprise.

For the first few weeks, I felt just fine. I even remember telling my doctor n my first visit that "I don't feel nauseous?!" HA! That would surely change!

Around week 6, I started to feel nauseous and the fatigue hit me like a ton of bricks! I found myself taking naps in the middle of the day and I am NOT a napper!

The nausea got worse and worse as the days went on. The mornings were not that bad, but around the afternoon/evening is when it really started to set in. I had to keep snacking through out the day to make myself feel better. I also always needed an ice cold drink by my side to sip on.

The night time was the worst (still is while I am writing this at 12 weeks). Around 8:30 - 9pm I would start to feel soooo nauseated to the point where all I could do was lie down. In the beginning I would sip on ginger ale to help. Then, I started getting an aversion to carbonated beverages, so I switched to iced water with lemon.

There are a lot of little tricks I've found that help with nausea through out the day. Maybe I write a separate post just about these findings!

NOTE: I know this sounds like I am complaining a lot (which I am), but we could not be happier about this new addition in our lives! We are so blessed to be pregnant and to be able to share the joy of adding to our family!

Without further adieu, here are my first "bump" photos:

{dress (similar)- H&M}

This was my first attempt at a selfie "bump" pic. I feel as though I look a little awkward... I swear I will get better at this!

{dress - Gap}

At 11 weeks I felt as though I was starting to show. It feels like you are really bloated, but you can't suck in and spanx are not an option lol! Thank goodness it is maxi dress season!

How far along:  12 weeks!

Baby size: Plum :)

Baby's progress: Baby is about 2 inches long. He/she has developed fingers and toes and even finger nails! Head to body ratio right now is 1:1. Baby was moving around a lot during our last ultrasound!

Weight gain: I haven't really paid too much attention to the scale recently, but last dr appt I believe I was already up 6 lbs! :/

Stretch marks: Nothing yet! I got some Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter. I better start using it!

Sleep: Yes! My new bedtime is 9 - 10pm and I usually sleep in until about 7:30 - 8am... It is glorious!

Gender: Don't know yet... Can't wait to find out! I'm thinking boy, Bill is thinking girl. We will see who's right :)

Movement: None yet. Although, we did see our little peanut move a lot during the last ultrasound this past Friday!

Best moment this week: Finding a serve yourself frozen yogurt place close to my house (see food cravings below). Going to First Watch for brunch twice this week, they have the best decaf coffee around! Also, getting a mani / pedi... I'm all about pampering myself! Oh, and seeing the little peanut on the ultrasound machine! Made it even more real!

Looking forward to: Finding out the gender!!! Also, getting out of the 1st trimester and getting more energy. And no more nausea please :/

Food cravings: strawberry frozen yogurt with rainbow sprinkles (I've had this everyday for the past 5 days...), fruit, fruit juices (I have a big glass of OJ every morning), ice cream... Nothing too salty which is weird for me... I'm usually a salty person!

Weirdest food I ate this week: Nothing really out of the ordinary??

Anything making you queasy or sick: brushing my teeth! I hate the toothbrush and I hate the taste of toothpaste! Also, the smells from my face lotion and face whipes... I think I have to find some that are unscented.

Labor signs: too early!

What I miss: COFFEE!!! I thought this one would be alcohol for sure, but I haven't really missed it. I miss feeling normal and having energy throughout the day.

Symptoms: Nausea pretty much all day then gets worse at night. Have not actually thrown up yet (knock on wood), but could totally pull the triger at any moment. Being sooo tired in the afternoon and evening. I am taking naps after work if I can. Hungry all day long. I eat little bits through out the day.

Workouts: HA! Do walks with Charlie count? Really though, I should be doing more. I do squats when I'm curling my hair?

Things that suck: Feeling sick everyday. I described it to Bill as feeling hungover everyday, but not having the benefit of drinking the night before. He was like "wow, that's horrible" :)

Things that don't suck: Seeing the little peanut move around on the ultrasound!! Finally telling all our friends and family and feeling so much love and support! This little baby is going to be so loved!!

That's all for this week's Bump-Date!

PS - If you are pregnant and have a blog or know of any pregnancy blogs I should follow, please list them in the comment section below! I love finding new mommys and mommys-to-be!

Our BIG Announcement...

I confess... I've been hiding a BIG secret from you guys for the past few months... Well, I can finally let the cat out of the bag!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!

Baby Rumple is due December 6, 2014!

Now you know why I have been a little MIA from the blog...

Let me tell you, these hormones are no joke! I have been blessed with all the wonderful symptoms that come along with the first trimester including: nausea, headaches, fatigue (like I could fall asleep at any given moment), food cravings and aversions... The list goes on! Oh, and I have the most lovely, massive zit right under my nose! The kind that's all under the skin and is painful?! Yes, so much fun...

However, I am currently 12 weeks along (as of Saturday), so I hear these symptoms will start to subside after a few more weeks... Just need to make it through!

We just had our 12 week appointment and got to see little baby Rumple! Baby's stats are all healthy and we couldn't be more excited!!

I will officially be starting my "Bump-dates" this week!
First one will be tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Pink Tea Roses

Hey there!

Just wanted to drop in and share some pretty photos of our pink tea roses we planted in our front yard.

If you are looking for an easy to take care of flower to plant, these pink tea roses have bloomed beautifully for us with only a few waterings (is that a word?) a week. Of course, it has been raining here a lot so that helps...

I picked a few the other day and noticed they had some dark pink discoloring on them.
Not sure if this was from the cold recently or the rain?? But, it made them look like they were tie dyed!

Oh, and here's a random photo of Charlie... he needs a bath and a blow out badly!!

Can you believe this liitle guy went from 2.5 lbs in late March to over 7 lbs now?!!
Our little baby is growing up so fast! :(

That's all for now on this Random Wednesday!

I'm linking up with Shanna today!

Crossbody Obsessed...

Side note: Sorry for being MIA from the bloggy this past week! I have been busy at work and sometimes I just don't know where the time goes at night!

Anyways, I've been meaning to post this for a while now... I am in love with my new Kate Spade crossbody I purchased a few months ago. It is the perfect size for day time and night time use. I have never really been a fan of the over sized handbag. Every time I purchase a big handbag, I always seem to stuff it with too much stuff! The best way to keep things neat is to keep the size manageable so you are forced to clean it out daily.

I am also LOVING the new bright colors these little bags come in. Perfect for Spring and Summer!

Here are my picks for the perfect crossbody:
1 // kate spade new york 'cobble hill - tenley' crossbody bag in the color 'fresh air'

2 // MICHAEL by Michael Kors 'bedford' leather crossbody in 'Saphire'

3 // Tory Burch 'All T Suki' leather crossbody in 'Poppy Red'

4 // Rebecca Minkoff 'Mini MAC' crossbody in 'light turquoise'

5 // Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Preppy Nylon Natasha - Mini' crossbody in 'Cement'

Which one is your fav?
Are you a fan of the crossbody bag?

5 on Friday

So happy Friday is here!

The weather here in Columbus, Ohio has been glorious the last few days which makes me so excited for the weekend!

I'm also excited to celebrate my Mothers this weekend! This year I get to celebrate Mother's Day with my Mom and Mother-In-Law! I am so lucky to now have TWO amazing women in my life that inspire me everyday!

Here are five things that I'm loving this week:

1 // Covergirl BB cream... I am addicted to this stuff and put it on every morning! It is perfect for everyday use and goes on like lotion. There are 10 skin friendly benefits in this little bottle including SPF 21 and is tinted for the right amount of coverage that won't clog pores.

2 // Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter... This stuff is also addicting! I got 2 new colors: Berry Smoothie and Sorbet. They seriously feel like butter on my lips!

3 // My new monogram necklace from this Etsy shop! I got the 16" chain which is the perfect size for layering and everyday wear.

4 // I recently started noticing these Kendra Scott earrings everywhere and decided I needed to track them down. I found a couple pairs that I feel like I need to be mine ASAP! Which pair is your favorite?

Danielle earrings in neon pink // Deily earrings in white pearl // Skylar earrings in chalcedony

I'm also loving this neon pink pendant necklace:

5 // Finally, I gotta give props to my momma!  It's so amazing how much she's become more like a best friend than a mom as I get older. She even helps puppy sit Charlie during the week and leaves little report cards and recipes she cuts out from magazines she thinks I would like :)
She's the best!

That's all for this weeks Friday 5!

I'm linking up with April, Lauren, JennieRebecca and Amanda!

Wedding Wednesday // The Details (part 2)

Continuing from my last WW post here, these are the details from the reception portion of our wedding.

The Centerpieces

The centerpieces for the tables at the reception were a mixture of floral arrangements and DIY gold vases grouped together (see below...) with lots of sparkling votives and sequins sprinkled around.

The floral center piece was a mix of black magic roses, miniature pink roses, pink carnations and seeded eucalyptus.

The other tables had clusters of gold vases and wine glasses that I had found at Goodwill and spray painted gold. The tall vases were filled with the pink mini roses and eucalyptus, the smallest vase was filled with a single black magic rose and the wine glass had a floating candle.

I also made all of the table numbers using card stock and printing them at home using our wedding font and cutting them to fit the frames and picks.

The "LOVE" balloons

I had a vision of including these big gold letter balloons in the wedding decor somehow. I had seen them on blogs and instagram and decided they would be the perfect touch to my gold, glam wedding. So, I searched online and found these letter balloons on Amazon. I decided to buy the letters L O V and E :) It was a last minute decision to place them behind the head table, which I'm so glad we did because it provided the perfect focal point for the room.

Here's a better close up of the love balloons and the head table (Apparently, my Matron of Honor said something hilarious...). For the head table, I used a gold sequined table runner. We had 6 hurricane vases that held the bridesmaids' and my bouquets as well as spray painted wine glasses with floating candles for decor at the head table.

The Escort Cards

One of the most fun (and tedious) projects I completed for the wedding was the escort cards. I made paper flags for the gold and white straws with each guest's name and table number on the back. These were lined up in Champagne glasses during cocktail hour for guests to find their seat before the dinner part of the reception.

The Dessert Bar

The dessert bar was our "favor" to the guests. The dessert bar consisted of Buckeyes (for those outside of Ohio, Buckeyes are balls of peanut butter dipped in chocolate... they are also Ohio State University's mascot! Yes, it's a nut... But, also a delicious treat!), chocolate dipped pretzel rods, caramel puff corn and a tower of mini cupcakes in various flavors.

I actually made the cake stands you see in the above photo by spray painting plates, platters and candle sticks/holders (all bought at Goodwill) gold and epoxy gluing them together.

The Cake

Bill and I had a small 2 tier cake to use for our "cake cutting". I will say that unfortunately, the edible gold glitter that was supposed to look like gold glitter did not come out so well. It actually made the cake look a little yellow, so I'm not going to share a complete photo of the cake. I was, however, in love with the flowers cascading down the front and our cake topper that I found on Etsy

Well, that will do it! All the details of the Rumple wedding!

I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into the event that took over my life for a good 10 months last year! I'm sad that it is over, but actually relieved at the same time :)

Weekend Happenings + 5 de Mayo Recipe

Hola chicas!

My weekend was pretty uneventful except for the fact that we planted a TON of flowers in our front yard. Our landscaping needed a little sprucing up, so off to our local nursery we went to grab flats and flats of Impatiens, Petunias, Snapdragons and 2 rose bushes.

The planting was done by Bill and his brother. Payment was in the form of pizza and beer :)

We also got some pretty potted flowers for the front porch.

I also I planted a little Dahlia plant :)

Other than a little yard work, the rest of the weekend consisted of watching the Kentucky derby, grabbing coffee and breakfast with a friend and doing chores around the house.

My friend and I met at Pistacia Vera for coffee and breakfast on Sunday morning. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots. They have the most beautiful pastries, yummy breakfast quiches (I had the Bacon, Kale and Onion Quiche which was delish!), and the most perfect macarons you ever did see. Every time I go, I have to bring home a box of their macarons.

+++

Now, since we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo, I thought it would be appropriate to share my recipe for my favorite Mexican layered dip!

Ingredients:

2 cans of Fritos bean dip {I find this in the chips isle on their own shelf with the Tostitos salsas}
3 tablespoons light sour cream
about 1/2 bag of finely shredded Mexican or Taco cheese
Optional:
chopped green onions and tomatoes
can also add sliced black olives {I'm not a big olive fan}

Directions:
Layer ingredients in order on a 9 x 11 glass casserole dish. You could sprinkle the tomatoes and green onions on either side to look like the Mexican flag {like pictured above}. You may want to refrigerate the dip for about an hour before serving or make sure all ingredients are refrigerated before layering if you are planning to serve immediately.
Serve with your favorite type of tortilla chips!
So easy and yet so delicious!

This recipe could easily be made more healthy if you use a black bean dip {my mom finds this at Whole Foods, but you should be able to find it at any health or organic food store}. You could also use non-fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

Check out the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta I styled last year here.
