Life Lately + Big News!

Oh hey there blogger world! I swear I am still here! Life with 2 under 2 has been keeping me pretty busy these days, but I still like to check in here at my little creative space every now and then. So, here's what's been going on lately in my little world...

Over the weekend we drove 5+ hours to Bill's hometown for his friend's wedding festivities. Bill was in the wedding so we spent 4 days at his parents house with the 2 boys and our dog. We barely survived car ride with 2 carseats and me crammed in between them in our Jeep Cherokee. After feeling claustrophobic the entire time and seeing how much crap you really need to cart around with 2 littles ones, we both decided it is time for a mini van! I told myself I'd never be 'that mom', but honestly I'd rather be comfortable traveling with my little ones than worry about being a 'cool' mom. Plus, we are planning to drive to Columbus with both of them at the end of September, which is an even longer drive. So, I'm hoping we have one by then! Any van recommendations welcome. I think we are leaning towards the Honda Odyssey.

Once we got there, we had a great time! And I loved having the grandparents' help with the boys. I love going to Bill's parents house because they live on a large piece of land with farms all around. They have a huge garden, which to me (from suburbia land) seems like a farm! They grow all types of vegetables. Camden took his first tractor ride! He seemed to like it!

(They also grow pumpkins! Bill's mom carved the boys names in their own pumpkins which I thought was adorable!)

The wedding was a lot of fun too! Of course, I could only stay at the reception for a few hours before I had to leave to feed Bennett, but it was nice to be able to dress up and be social away from the boys for a few hours. One of Bill's cousins baby sat the boys at his parents house while we attended the wedding and reception. I wore this dress (on major sale right now!), this necklace and these shoes (bought from Amazon!). The dress was the perfect post baby dress because it wasn't form fitting. I loved the shoes, although they started to hurt my feet towards the end of the night but that could be because I'm not used to wearing heels! Unfortunately, I didn't get a good picture of us at the wedding...FAIL!!

Bennett has his 2 month appointment today (he was 2 months on the 28th)! I'm not looking forward to the shots, but am curious to see how much he has grown. This boy loves to eat! I think he would nurse all day if he could. His reflux is getting a bit better and I don't know if it's the Zantac or the fact that I've cut out dairy from my diet, but we are sticking to both for now. He's starting to sleep a bit better at night too! He usually goes down around 8-9pm and last night slept until almost 4am! Those 5-6 hour stretches of sleep are glorious!

In other big news... I decided to start working part time again! It was something I had been contemplating for the past couple of weeks. Being a stay at home mom of 2 under 2 is probably the most challenging job ever! I was missing the balance between work, life, home, kids, etc. When I told Bill he was completely supportive and we decided to try taking Camden back to his old daycare 3 days a week while I work part time from home. My old company was so gracious to let me have my position back and I'm so thankful they had not filled it yet! I'm hoping this will be a good balance for everyone. Camden is at the age where I feel like he needs so much attention and is on the go all day. It was just hard for me to give him the right amount of attention with the baby all day. I love his teachers and I also love that he will get some social interaction and be able to blow off some steam for a few days during the week!

So, that's what's been going on in my little world! I hope to keep this little blog going as well! Hopefully, I will start to be on a better schedule now and will be able to post more regularly.

PS - I can't believe it's almost September already?!!

Tuesday Randoms

Happy Tuesday! I thought I'd share a few random thoughts and confessions today, so here we go...

1. Loving... that the weather is finally starting to cool down and we are loving it! The past few weeks with the temps in the high 80s and 90s I just felt like it was too hot to be outside with Bennett and Camden would just beg to go outside and play all day long. Now that the temps are more in the high 70s, we are enjoying a lot of outside play and family walks. There's something about just going outside when it's sunny that lifts my mood immediately! And the boys seem to love it as well.

2. Not loving... That poor little Bennett has started to have a bad case of reflux. It started around 5/6 weeks and has gotten increasingly worse over the past few weeks. Some nights it takes us over an hour after his last feeding to settle him down before bed. I remember Camden going through a similar phase, but I think Bennett may have it a touch worse. We just got a prescription for Zantac and hoping that helps!

3. Excited for... FALL! Football season, boots, plaid, pumpkin spice... All the fall things. Especially looking forward to wearing my new fall clothes and booties!

4. Looking forward to... Actually dressing up for a wedding this weekend! Bill and I will be traveling to his home town for one of his best friends' wedding this weekend and we are bringing the boys along with us. We have a baby sitter for during the wedding and reception so it will be our first official 'date night' with out the babies! I didn't find a dress I loved, so I will be wearing an Old Navy shift dress I bought a while ago with this necklace and these shoes I scored from Amazon!

5. I confess... I wear these tee shirts and a pair of these shorts just about everyday! I have an assortment of colors in the tops and have about 5 pairs of the athletic shorts. They are just so comfortable and easy to throw on in the morning and perfect for hanging out with a newborn and a toddler on the go! Someday I will wear normal clothes again, right?!

6. I also confess... That I finally got my hair highlighted over the weekend and I love the color! However, I had to cut the appointment short because I had to go home and pump. So I left the salon with half wet, frizzy hair! #breastfeedingproblems

7. Lastly... Can we make a final decision on the snapchat v. instagram stories debate? I'm trying to keep up with both, but I'm thinking that the IG stories may win just for the fact that I can keep everything on one app? But, IG stories does not have any fun filters that keep me and my toddler entertained during the slow times in the afternoon or in the grocery store lines... That's all I have for now! Hope you all are having a great week!

Follow Up from My Last Post

First of all, thank you to those that commented on my last post. It is so comforting to hear from fellow mamas who know what it's like to feel a bit overwhelmed at times! This is why I love blogging so much, we can all relate to each other on a personal level and not just a surface level. Yes, I really love blogging about fashion, home decor, baby things, etc. But I really love sharing what's really going on and the 'real' side of life because I know that's what you all can relate to and those are the posts I love reading from other bloggers as well. And thank you Katie for giving me a shout out on your blog this week too!

Love this boy to pieces!

Secondly, I really didn't want that post to come off like I was complaining about my life. I know I am extremely lucky and blessed to have the opportunity to be home with my boys full time. There are so many moms out there that wish they could stay home with their kids and I don't want to take this privilege for granted. I love my boys so much it hurts and I want to give them the best of me at all times. Because Bennett is so new and needs a lot of attention it's been difficult to divide my time between my newborn and toddler who also demands my attention constantly as well.

However, being a second time mama I know that this is just a phase. Everything with babies is just a phase. I know he won't always be this fussy in the evenings. I know he will eventually be able to fall asleep on his own without being rocked or held. I know he will eventually sleep through the night (hopefully around 3 months like his brother did!). I KNOW it will get easier... But, right now it is tough! And sometimes we just need to vent! I'm so glad that so many other moms feel the same and it makes me feel a little less crazy. :)

For now, I am focusing on loving everyday I get to spend with my boys. I am going to make sure they both know how much I love them and hopefully we can all get through this 'tough' time together.

Oh and thank goodness for grandparents! Bill's parents came in town to help while Bill traveled for work for a few nights and it has been such a relief to have the extra hands around the past few days. Like, the fact that they took both boys and our dog for a walk to the park for an hour which allowed me to type this post is amazing!

Yes, this is a tough phase, but we will get through it. And the best part about my new 'career' is seeing their smiling faces everyday!

My New 'Normal' + Finding 'Me' Time

As I sit here in Bennett's nursery watching him sleep during Camden's nap time, I'm realizing that these few little quiet moments are going to be very scarce going forward. Last week was my first full week at my new job as a SAHM of 2 boys under the age of 2. Let me tell you, initiation into this new career has been challenging to say the least.

My days are filled with soothing a fussing baby, rocking, nursing, burping, pumping, wiping all while my 20 month old is whining, getting into things, jumping on the couch and testing my patience. Camden wants me to hold him when I'm holding the baby. The baby wants to be held when I'm in the middle of a fun activity with Camden. I'm being pulled in all directions. On top of that, the nights give me anxiety. Will I get some sleep tonight?

Oh, and forget the house chores. Our house is a permanent disaster. I'm slowly learning to live with it. Things are everywhere. Baby things, toddler toys... just STUFF everywhere. I do my best to keep up with the dishes and laundry, but not much beyond that. My main priority at the moment is making sure these babes are fed, cleaned, entertained and loved.

This is my new normal.

Oh and finding "me" time? This has been a goal of mine and I'm quickly realizing that those times will be very few and far between. It is a miracle that both babies are even sleeping at the same time right now. I told Bill that I will need a few hours every weekend to myself, just to get out of the house. Thank goodness I have a husband that is very understanding and is capable and willing to take care of both our boys so that I can recharge here and there. I think it's hard for us moms to let others know we need a break from our kids. This past Saturday, I went to Hobby Lobby by myself for an hour, probably spent too much money on things for Bennett's nursery and then spent the rest of my remaining half an hour at Starbucks with my laptop. I was so excited, I didn't even get to blogging. All I did was answer a few emails and browse online sites knowing full well I wasn't going to buy anything.

Some of my friends shared this article with me and I think it really struck a cord in my current state of mind. We (moms) forget to take care of ourselves not only physically, but mentally as well. We NEED a break every now and then. We will be better mothers because of it.

I'm sharing all of this with you because I'm not really sure when I will be able to blog for the next few months as things are pretty hectic around here. My priorities have shifted, but I'm hoping to keep it alive as long as I have some 'me' time here and there. The posts may be few and far between.

Just know I am still reading blogs and am being inspired everyday! You guys keep me going! I want to comment more, but I'm mostly on my phone now and it is more difficult to comment. Just know I am reading and following along.

That is all for now. My toddler just woke up early from his nap and is throwing everything out of his crib...Of course!

Back to work! :)

Life with 2 under 2 (and a few things that help me survive!)

(Brother shirts from this etsy shop)

Life with 2 under 2 is not for the faint at heart. It is a very busy, messy, sleepless life, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Actually, we've been lucky enough to have so much help and support from our parents that it hasn't been too unmanageable so far. This week is actually the first full week that we have the boys at home with no additional help. So far, we are surviving and the boys are alive and fed! Success!

Camden has been warming up to his little brother being around. Every time he sees Bennett, he says "Baaaaybeeeee!" in a really high pitched voice. He also loves to lean into his head to give him kisses and says "Mmmmmwaaaahh!" It is the sweetest thing! He also loves to point out all his facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc) and then proceeds to point to his same feature on his face. There have only been a few instances where have had to say 'no' and teach him the word 'gentle' in the past few weeks. Hopefully, that will get better over time!

Today, I wanted to share a few products that have made this new life with 2 under 2 a bit easier:

First, I do plan to finish Bennett's nursery someday. It is getting there! I can't wait to share photos when it's completely finished. I knew I wanted to add a cute, functional rug in his room. I loved the big, fuzzy white rug we had in Camden's old room. It was perfect for him to crawl around on and made the best photo background. However, it got so dingy and dirty over time that we decided to throw it out once we moved. Enter Lorena Canals rugs! These rugs are machine washable! Hello convenience and durability! I was so happy when the company contacted me to share their brand and products. I was drawn to this rug in particular (similar style) for the neutral tones (kind of the theme of baby B's nursery) and the cute polka dot pattern. It is the perfect size for his small room and just adds a touch of interest over the boring tan carpet. If you have little ones, or are starting to decorate a nursery, I suggest looking into these rugs! There are so many cute patterns and styles!

Although, I've mostly been at home with the boys, I'm hoping to venture out with both of them soon so I can get comfortable with it. We have gone on several family walks around our neighborhood with the double stroller. I'm so glad we invested in this one! I also love the Covered Goods carseat cover (also a nursing cover!) so that Bennett is shielded from the sunlight.

Also, thank goodness for baby wearing! Baby Bennett loves to be held and Camden just wants to go go go all day long, so this Solly Baby wrap has really come in handy!

Last, but not least, I am so happy that Binxy baby sent me this awesome shopping cart hammock! I haven't yet ventured to the grocery store with both of them, but I have gone with just Bennett and it makes shopping so much easier! Before I would put the whole carseat in the cart, leaving hardly any room for my grocery items. With the Binxy baby shopping cart hammock I can safely secure the carseat in the hammock, leaving more room in the cart for items. Later, when Bennett gets a bit bigger, I can just put him right in the hammock and not worry about bringing the bulky carseat! Genius!

If you have 2 little ones or are about to have your second, I highly recommend investing in the products listed above. Trust me when I say you will pay and arm and a leg to make your life just a little bit easier! :)

*I was provided a rug from Lorena Canals and a Binxy Baby ahopping cart hammock for this post. All views and opinions are my own.

DIY Newborn Photography Tips

I just love the newborn stage! They are so snugly and sleepy. We've definitely enjoyed this time with Bennett. It's typically around 4-6 weeks when they really start 'waking up' and become more aware of their surroundings. It's definitely key to get good photos of newborns in the first few weeks of life or else it can start to be a bit more tricky when they get a bit older.

Let me start by saying, I am NOT a professional photographer by any means. I had taken a few photos of Camden on my Nikon dslr camera when he was a newborn, but wished that I could have gotten more. I didn't want to fork out extra money for professional newborn photos (and we had already paid for photos taken in the hospital) so that was the main reason I wanted to take them myself.

This time around, I decided to invest in an extra lens and watched a few YouTube tutorials on newborn photography, shooting in manual and editing photos in Adobe Lightroom. After a few practice rounds with my new lens and editing skills, I was ready and excited to take photos of baby Bennett!

Here are my tips for taking newborn photos yourself:

1. Use a DSLR camera and a 50 mm lens. First, if you're hoping to get great, quality photos of your newborn on your iPhone or point and shoot camera you will be very disappointed. I have had my Nikon camera for a few years and was fairly comfortable using it to take photos. I recently purchased this 50 mm lens from a friend and am so glad I did! This lens is a total game changer and really takes your photos to the next level. It helps with those close up details and gives photos that blurry background that makes them look so professional.

2. Know how to shoot in manual and edit photos. If you know how to shoot in manual and you have the correct lighting, you may not even need to do much editing. I found this YouTube channel to be very helpful when it came to learning how to shoot in manual. There are 3 main aspects of shooting in manual that you need to understand which are: ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. Once you have these mastered, you will be able to take great photos!

When it comes to editing, I have use Adobe Lightroom (I pay the monthly package which is $9.99/mo). The best way to get that 'newborn' glow and creaminess to the photos is to bump up the exposure and bump down the contrast and clarity a bit. I didn't go in and remove any of Bennett's flaky or blotchy skin. In my opinion, I don't like to edit a baby too much. They are perfect the way they are, flaky skin and all! But, if you wanted to go more in depth with the editing and filters there are actual presets you can buy online like this one for example.

I also use the app Afterlight on my iPhone to edit photos from my FlashAir SD memory card. This memory card is linked to wifi, so I can download photos from my Nikon camera directly to my phone wirelessly. It is a great investment and really comes in handy!

3. Set Up and Lighting. You want to make sure you are taking photos in the best possible light in your home. This will most likely be near a big open window in the middle of the day when the sunlight is at it's maximum. You do not want to turn on any lamps or overhead lighting because this will cause the photos to have a yellow tint and will not look natural.

Decide what type of props you want to involve in the photos. For the top photo in this post I set up a Boppy Lounger pillow underneath a fuzzy blanket and positioned Bennett on top of it with his personalized beanie. For the other photos in this post I simply had him on our bed with a blanket and thought it was an optimal time to snap some detail shots while the lighting was optimal. Sometimes the most natural, unplanned shots are the best!

4. Last, but not least... Be Prepared! Newborns can be a bit unpredictable at times... And by that I mean, their digestive systems can be unpredictable! Just check out these newborn photo shoots gone wrong! It's definitely important to be prepared for the worst. Have wipes, diapers, stain remover, etc on hand just in case. I will have you know right after I took that angelic photo at the top of this post, Bennett immediately pooped all over that white fuzzy blanket! Ha!

Those are my tips for taking your own newborn photos! Of course, if they don't end up they way you like you can always hire a professional. However, it is so much more convenient (and cost effective) to take them yourself if you have the time, equipment and energy! :)

#NSale Favorites under $50 + What I Bought

You guys, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale ends this weekend! Have you taken advantage any amazing deals?! I was a slacker and just placed my order on Friday, so I'm anxiously awaiting my packages this week!

I have been trying to keep my shopping budget to a minimum after baby (having a baby ain't cheap, people!) and knowing that my body will slowly be changing over the next few months, I didn't really want to 'invest' in any pieces that may not fit me in the near future.

I didn't want to pass up a good sale, though. Each item I purchased was less than $50 and I got some great pieces! I am especially excited for these Zella leggings that everyone raves about. Also, I am very excited about this top that I got in "grape leaf" (olive color). I already have it in a wine/burgundy color and I love it! I also ordered this necklace and these Spanx undies which will be great to help suck in my post baby belly. I still have a few items left in my cart that I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on, which are these jeans, this watch (which is a restock that I was waiting for! Only $15.90!) and this dress that would be a great fall staple.

There are so many great sale options that are under $50! I've broken them out into categories for you below...
