Our Honeymoon Part 2

I'm back with the 2nd installment of our honeymoon recap in Hawaii! (You can find the recap of the first part of our honeymoon in Maui here)

The last 3.5 days were spent in Honolulu. It was great because we got the best of both worlds on our Hawaiian vacation. Maui was more the laid back, relaxing, tropical island setting; while Honolulu had more of a city vibe that just happened to be on a beautiful beach!

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort which was right on the Kahanamoku Beach.

We were right on the beach, but surrounded by the city.

On our second day there, we rented a car and drove up to the North Shore (recommendation from locals). The scenery on the way up was breathtaking and felt like we were in Jurassic Park!

We stopped at the island of Mokoli'i or the "Chinaman's Hat."

Our second stop on the way up to the North Shores was the Shrimp Shack. This place had great reviews online.

It was literally just a little food truck next to a shack, but boy did they have some great shrimp!

I got the coconut shrimp and Bill got the garlic shrimp and we shared the crab legs. SO delish and so fresh! PS - Do you like Bill's Hawaiian shirt? He insisted on wearing it lol.

When we got up to the North Shore, the scenery was breathtaking. Crystal blue water, soft sand and blue skies. The North Shore is a popular backdrop for a lot of movies too such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Surfers come here to ride the big waves and there are a lot of surf competitions that take place.

We hung out at the beach for a few hours just relaxing and watching the surfers go in and out.

After that, we continued our drive back down the island and stopped at a few scenic areas to take photos.

Of course, we got hungry again and stopped at another food shack/truck area.

That night we attended the Hilton Hawaiian Village Luau. The performance was so great and so was the food!

The next morning, we knew we wanted to watch the OSU football game somewhere and we did some research to find the only bar near by that would be playing it (die hard fans over here). The game started at noon Ohio time which was 6am Hawaiian time. Luckily the bar opened early for the Buckeye fans. We were surprised how many there were on the island!

Horrible iPhone photo, but had to document the other Buckeye fans we met! The one on the left was a former band member and the one in the middle was a former cheerleader! Bill was the mascot Brutus in college! Small world!

The next few days were spent lounging by the beach, shopping, more eating... You know... All my favorite things!

I had the best mahi mahi fish tacos!!

We also got to try out paddle boarding which was fun!
{again, sorry for the horrible phone photo quality!}

There's our honeymoon in a nutshell!
The one regret we have is not going to see Pearl Harbor while we were there. We saved that for the last day and we found out there was a 2 hour wait just to get tickets that day. My suggestion is to call ahead days in advance to get tickets if you go.

I hope we can return someday! Maybe for our 10 year anniversary?! :)

Our Honeymoon Part 1

I can't believe it's been almost 9 months since our honeymoon in Hawaii...
It feels like it was yesterday we were flying over the Hawaiian island of Maui in a helicopter!

I must say that our trip to Hawaii was one of my favorite traveling experiences yet.
I highly recommend that everyone add Hawaii to their traveling bucket list!

We spent 7 days in Hawaii. The first 3.5 days were spent in Maui at the gorgeous Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria Resort. Let me just say that this is the nicest resort I have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived, we were treated so special. Of course, in Hawaiian tradition we were greeted with leis and an "Aloha!"

The scenery around the resort was breathtaking!

(horrible iphone photo, but had to get the leis in there!)

Bill receives points for Hilton properties from traveling for work. He was able to save enough points for us to use for the 3 day stay in Maui! Being a Hilton Honor member means perks! We stayed in the Napua Tower, which was a gated wing of the resort. Every night they offered complimentary appetizers and cocktails at 5pm. We were all over that!

{we're kind of a big deal...}

When we arrived to our room, I was surprised to see not 1, but 2 ice buckets with champagne bottles! It was my actual birthday when we arrived (11/11/14) so, Bill had planned ahead to have a bottle of champagne. Well, it turned out that my parents also had the same idea and scheduled a bottle to be waiting for us as well! Double surprise and happy birthday to me!

Our first night, we went to dinner at Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (yea, say that 3 times fast!).
It was the perfect setting with the tiki torches lit and the water surrounding us. We both ordered the lobster dinner, because, well... YOLO!

It was the most perfect birthday dinner!

The next few days on the resort were filled with sitting by the pool and beach, a wonderful day at the spa that included a couples massage and a helicopter ride over the island of Maui!

The helicopter ride was amazing and we got to see the entire island; volcanoes and all!

One of my favorite memories from Maui was an afternoon spent in the little grotto bar by the pool at our resort. Just relaxing, drinking cocktails out of a plastic pineapple and enjoying each other's company.

Our last night in Maui was spent at the Humu (the same restaurant we went to on the first night). We showed up right before unset and I brought my Nikon camera in order to capture the beautiful scenery that surrounds the restaurant and the resort.

I had heard the sunsets in Maui were breathtaking and that is the truth!

That concludes part 1 of our honeymoon recap!
I'll be back next week for part 2 in Honolulu!
