Four Outfits for the 4th!

I've been on a white and blue kick recently and all these outfits would be perfect for the upcoming holiday! Just throw on some bright red lips or a red clutch and you are set! A few of these are on sale as well, so grab them while they are still in stock!

Just for sizing reference, I am 5'2" and typically wear a size 4-6 in bottoms and Small/Mediums in tops depending on the brand. I have wider hips and bigger chest, so it just depends on the fit as to what size I order.

When I ordered this dress it was on sale, but now seems to be back at full price. However, it's still under $50 which I think is a great price for a dress! I love the blue and white pin stripe pattern and of course, I'm all about a one shoulder dress. I could not say no to this combo! I'm looking forward to wearing this dress on our family trip to Outer Banks in a few weeks!  *This dress runs a bit small in my opinion and I ordered a Medium.

When I saw this navy and white striped, off the shoulder top I knew I had to try it on. And after I had it on and felt how soft and comfortable it was, it had to be mine! I've tried a few off the shoulder looks and if I feel like I have to keep pulling it up or if it's too tight around my shoulders, I know I won't wear it. This top does not feel that way! It is so comfortable! Perfect summer top to dress up with white denim and heels or dress down with shorts and flip flops! It comes in a few solid colors as well. If you are thinking about ordering, I would act fast because sizes are running low! *I bought a size XS for reference. I feel as though Old Navy runs a bit big in sizing.

Shop this look:

I picked up this gingham off the shoulder top at Target on one of my recent trips. Sadly, I can not find it anywhere online! But, I've linked to some similar gingham tops I'm loving at the moment. I am loving everything gingham just as much as stripes these days! *Brand is Mossimo and I'm wearing a size Medium.

Last but not least, what I will most likely wear this weekend! I have been loving this lightweight, navy striped cardigan this summer. It's perfect to throw on over tanks and shorts if it gets a bit chilly in the evenings or early morning. It's also on sale right now, as is almost everything on Old Navy's website! I recently picked up a handful of tops, these shorts and this dress on a recent shopping trip. All items from my outfit above and what I purchased linked below:

Also, there are some great 4th of July sales going on this weekend!
I've listed a few of them below...

Target | 30% off home goods and an extra 10% off patio and furniture
Old Navy | Entire store on sale, up to 60% off items and $8 dresses!
J.Crew Factory | 40% off New Arrivals
H&MSummer Sale is up to 70% off  CODE: EXTRA40
SheIn | Up to 60% off trend styles

I hope you all have a Happy 4th of July Weekend!

Bennett Caught the Big ONE!

(Bennett's onesie from this etsy shop)

We had the best time on Sunday celebrating Bennett's first birthday with our family! The weather was perfect (sunny and 70's), the food was good and the boys gave us some great entertainment with the smash cake! Bennett was very happy to dig into his smash cake and of course, big brother had to get in on the fun! I got some great photos and a video of the whole fiasco!

I had a great time scheming and crafting for this fun little 'fishing' theme for his party. Most everything was DIY. I found most of the ideas from Pinterest of course! I ordered the smash cake from our local grocery store and I made the topper. The cupcakes were made by my mother in law (which were delicious!) and I made the chocolate dipped pretzel rods (fishing poles). Also on the menu were a variety of subs (submarines), mac & cheese (homemade by my mother in law), broccoli salad, fruit salad and fish and chips (individual chip and goldfish bags). We also had pails of worms and minnows (gummy worms and Swedish fish).

It's fitting that I am posting this on Bennett's official birthday! I am still in denial that my baby is one and that it has been a whole YEAR since this moment...

A part of me is excited and happy that the boys are slowly starting to be on the same schedule and play together. But, mostly I'm sad because I absolutely love this baby age and do not want it to end. Bennett is just the sweetest little (ok, not so little) ball of squishy cuteness and I want him to stay little forever!

I'm also a bit sad because this could possibly be our last baby and we might be done with this baby stage. But, never say never... However, I am definitely not ready to be pregnant again any time soon!

We have been through so much as a family this past year with moving and settling into our new home. Bennett has been such a great baby through it all! He just brightens my day every morning when he smiles at me to pick him up out of his crib. We give thanks to God everyday for blessing us with 2 healthy and happy boys! I can not wait to see what the next year brings!

We love you Bennett! Happy 1st Birthday my love!

Currently I'm...

Feeling guilty... for not posting enough on this blog of mine. Summer time has got us BUSY! I'm working on some projects for Bennett's birthday party this weekend. Between that, taking care of my very active 2 boys, trying to keep up with house work, working and general life there just hasn't been enough time to keep up! Hopefully, I will be better about posting later in the summer. But for now it may be a bit scarce around here.

Also feeling a bit sad... about my baby turing one in a week. Like looking at all his baby photos and videos on my phone every night and getting teary eyed. How did this past year go so quickly?

Excited about... our upcoming family trip to the Outer Banks in July. We are going with Bill's family and the boys cousins so it should be a fun time! I've started my list for what we need to bring and what I need to get for the boys before we go including a puddle jumper for Camden and one of these awesome water proof beach blankets. Also thinking about getting a better sun hat for Bennett and stocking up on this sunblock for the boys.

Watching... Southern Charm and RHONY. Literally, those are the only shows I watch! I'm not even watching the Bachelorette this season. I don't know what is going on? I'm usually so tired at the end of the day I can barely make it through one show and then I'm ready for bed!

Reading... Nothing. Again, I wish I had more time in the day to read again! I've had this book on my wish list for a while... Maybe I'll bring it to the beach! Oh wait... I'll still have a toddler and a one year old with me sooooo... we'll see...

Eating... clean-ish... I'm not going all out Whole30 again (well, I only lasted 14 days last time, so it was really just Whole14 for me), but I have been trying to cut way back on dairy, gluten and sugar. So far so good. It's only been a few days so we'll see! Just trying to shed a few lbs before our trip.

Wearing... These shorts and these tee shirts like it's my job! They have definitely been my 'mom-iform' this summer!

Wishing for... this ruffle hem tee and these leopard slides... Can they be mine now?

Loving... My days at home with the boys. Even though they can be exhausting (understatement of the year), I just love being able to be home with them during this fun stage even for just a few days a week. They are both growing at such a rapid pace I'm trying to savor this time!

Advice for 2nd Time Moms

The title of this post may make it seem like I am an expert in the subject of being a second time mom. The truth is, I'm still learning! However, I've got just about a year of being a second time mom under my belt and I feel as though I have learned a lot.

I have 3 friends that are about to have their 2nd babies and one that is about to have her 3rd! It just seems to be that phase of life we are all in right now. While at a play date with one of said friends recently, she looked up at me and asked 'do you have any advice for this second time mom?'

The question kind of stumped me. To be honest, it's not like giving advice to a first time mom where you want to unload allll the gory details of your first experience of having a baby and what it was like that first year. They get it. They've been there. And the fact that they came back for more means they have the confidence in themselves that they can do it again.

The truth is, there is no good advice because everyones' experience is different. It may depend on the first child's age, where you live and the climate, if you have help readily available, how much time you have off of work, how you heal from the labor and birth... the list goes on. But, there are a few things you can do to help prepare your first born and yourself before baby #2 arrives.

To help prepare older sibling:

#1. Tell your first child that they are going to have a baby sister/brother.  They are smarter than we give them credit. Camden was 19 months when Bennett was born which means his age range when I was pregnant was 10 months - 19 months. This was a tough age to communicate what was going on. I would let him touch my belly and tell him that his baby brother was in there and that he would meet him soon. Every now and then Camden would point to my belly and say 'baby' which was adorable. Of course, I may never know if he actually got the concept, but repetition and reassurance helped him understand why mommy's belly was growing!

#2. Expose your first born to babies and how they act. This was one thing I didn't really do enough with Camden. By the time we moved to Illinois, about 6 months before Bennett was born, Camden was in daycare 3-4 days a week. So, he had plenty of exposure to other children his age, but minimal contact with babies younger than him. I didn't have any close friends at the time with babies and the family that would visit us had older cousins. I definitely wish I would have brought him around babies to experience how they cry, breastfeed/eat, sleep a lot, etc. He was expecting for Bennett to get up and play with him from the womb!

#3. Read Big Brother/Big Sister books. Camden actually loves this Big Brother book (Big Sister version here) and it's so cute to see him say 'that's me! And that's Bennett!" when we read it together.

#4. Get a baby doll and teach them how to help. This was one I wish I would have done with Camden. He just never seemed interested in baby dolls, so I never got one or pretended like any of his animals were babies. Just the simple act of showing them how to hold a baby or be gentle, feed, diaper, etc. Then, when baby #2 does arrive, they have their own baby to take care of and keep them busy.

#5. Make sure other people in your family are able to do bedtime/nap routines and are aware of their daily schedules. This is obvious because you will be busy with baby #2 for a while and will need help with #1 during the day and at night.

#6. Make sure to set aside one on one time with 1st born before and after baby #2 is born. I made sure to have a lot of mommy/Camden days before Bennett arrived. It was tough to get one on one time shortly after Bennett was born, but even just playing while the baby is napping helps.

#7. Prepare some 'quiet' or 'busy' boxes or have new toys on hand to keep them busy while you are feeding. There are some great ideas for these on Pinterest! This was something I wish I would have done before Bennett arrived.

#8. Get them a special shirt to wear to the hospital and maybe a gift from the baby. This will just make the older sibling feel more special when baby #2 arrives.

How to prepare yourself:

To be completely honest, the hardest part for you will be the emotional roller coaster. Yes, you will be healing and physically exhausted from labor and delivery. Yes, you will have a newborn keeping you up all night. You will be exhausted. BUT, the worst part for me was the heartbreak of not being able to be there for my first born as much after the baby was born. There were times when I was breastfeeding or just resting and recovering and Camden would call out for me. It literally broke my heart that I was not able to go to him and comfort him right away. Luckily, we had a lot of great help with first few weeks, so I know he was spoiled with love from his dad and grandparents. However, the mom guilt hurt my heart everyday for a while.

Just know that this is a phase and a transition for everyone in the family. There will be jealousy from your first born. Depending on the age, they may communicate/show it differently. But, this behavior is actually normal. It took a while for Camden to realize that Bennett was here to stay!

(taken the week after Bennett was born)

Lastly, give yourself some grace. Take a deep breath and let it go (Daniel Tiger anyone?). You will get through this. And in the end, you will have given your first born the greatest gift... a sibling and a life long friend! The struggle is always worth it in the end!

Also... don't blink because in a minute they will go from this...

To this...

Seriously, I feel like I just blinked and they grew!

I'm so excited to see how their little friendship evolves over the next year!

Jumping right into the 5 things that are making me happy from this week:

1. My new Day Designer arrived this week and I'm so excited to start using it! There's nothing better than a fresh, new, blank planner! I just love these planners because I can use the monthly calendar for event reminders and blog post planning and I can plan out my entire day by the hour on the daily tabs. Plus, when I saw this pretty gold dot pattern, I couldn't say no!

2. I just received this watch and these beaded stretch bracelets in the mail and I'm loving the combo together. The perfect bright colors for summer and of course I love anything with marble!

3. I just ordered and received this ceramic round brush from Amazon and I love it! The large, ceramic barrel really helps to smooth out my hair while blow drying.

4. I have my eye on this one piece suit for our upcoming family vacation to the outer banks in July! Give me all the off the shoulder, bright colored, one piece suits please! And for only $18! Say what?!

5. I'm currently planning Bennett's 1st birthday party and it's just so hard for me to think he is going to be ONE at the end of this month (cue all the cry face emojis!!). There are so many cute fishing theme party decorations on etsy! I already got him this shirt to wear. Now thinking about ordering this highchair banner and this garland... I'm having a hard time deciding what I need to purchase and what I can DIY. We are just having family over for dinner on the 24th, so there is really no need to go 'over board'... I need to 'reel' myself in... get it... see what I did there? 😉

Happy Fri-Yay!!!

May Favorites

Hello, and happy June! I can't believe we are already into the second week of June? How did that happen? It's been a few months since I've done one of these monthly favorites posts and they always seem to be a crowd pleaser, so I decided to bring them back.

First, I'll share the top 5 most clicked on items from last month. If you are new here, I often use affiliate links (more info on what they are here) to link to the products I share on the blog in order to not only receive a small amount of commission (thank you for your support!) if a reader decides to purchase that item, but also in order to track click through rates. If you have any questions about how the affiliate links work, feel free to leave a comment below and I'll be happy to explain!

So, here are the top 5 most clicked on items I shared last month:

#5. AEO Tomgirl Short, Faded Ways - I LOVE these distressed denim shorts so much! They are the perfect length (not too short, not too long) and I get compliments/questions about them every time I wear them. AND they are currently on sale for less than $40!

#4. Target Women's Softest Scoop Tee - Merona™ - Another everyday favorite. These tees are great not only because of the price (only 8 bucks!), but I love the scoop neck style. I'm not a fan of the high/crew neck tee shirts and some of the v-necks are just too low cut! This scoop neck tee is the perfect neckline for hanging out with my boys. PS - They are currently 3 for $20!!

#3. Target Women's Lace Halter One Piece Swimsuit - Sea Angel - I love this one piece swimsuit and can't wait to wear it on our vacation to the outer banks this summer! I was on the hunt for a one piece that would be appropriate to wear around the family and my boys and this one is perfect! Also, very flattering!

#2. Chelsea28 Ruffle Sleeve Tee - I wore this cute ruffle sleeve top in this most recent outfit post. It is so soft and easy to wear! Highly recommend this tee!

#1. Lush Ruffle One-Shoulder Dress - This is the dress I wore in my very first outfit post from last month. Such a great dress for summer!

And now, here are the top 5 most purchased items from last month (meaning, when they clicked on the link of the item, it generated a sale):

#5. This peplum tee - which is still on my wish list!

#4. Happy Tot Organic Veggie pouches - I believe I mentioned these in my Day In The Life post? They are my go to with Camden if he doesn't eat his veggies.

#3. Target Women's Softest Scoop Tee - Merona™ - another one mentioned in my Day In the Life post! And I wear them a lot when I'm with the boys because they are so comfortable and (most importantly) washable!

#2. Chelsea28 Ruffle Sleeve Tee - This seemed to be a popular item!

#1. Last but not least, this Bell Sleeve Tee generated the most sales last month! Which is currently on sale for less than $30! I'm so glad you all are on the same ruffle sleeve kick! :)

That's all for this May's favorites!

What do you think will be popular for June? Did you purchase any of these items?

Summer Dresses Under $100

Summer is pretty much the best season for style because you can wear a comfy dress every day of the week! I loved having a baby in the summer last year because I pretty much wore flowy dresses for months before and after Bennett arrived. Goodbye buttons and zips!

I've hand picked my top 9 dresses above and 6 of the most adorable rompers below, all under $100 (and most under $50)! Obviously, I'm on somewhat of an OTS (off the shoulders) kick lately...

Summer Staples

Oh, hey guys! I'm still playing catch up this week from the holiday weekend. It was such a fun 3 days with the family, but I trying to get back into the swing of things has been rough! But, I wanted to share this look with you before the end of the week!

I call this the 'Summer Staples' look because each piece is a staple in my wardrobe for the summer months. A cute and comfy tee, white distressed denim, nude sandals or wedges, a fun clutch, bright accessories and the perfect sunglasses all make up the best and easiest summer outfits. This combination could be easily worn day or night.

It took me a few tries to find the best distressed white denim, but this pair is perfection. AND it's under $60! It has a little bit of a higher waist so it helps to suck you in and has some stretch for added comfort. The hem is frayed which I love to fold up to wear with wedges or sandals.

This clutch is quickly becoming my favorite bag to carry, mostly because it goes with everything! Leopard is a neutral, right?!

These wedges were a last minute purchase (via Amazon prime) for a wedding last summer when I realized I needed some nude wedges. The sizes for these are running low online, but some of my other favorites are here and here

And these sunglasses are the perfect pair for summer and have a price tag of just $60. I'm actually loving all the Quay (fun fact: pronounced 'Key') sunglasses right now and have a few more pairs on my wish list.

I'm so glad I found this necklace from Target on one of my recent trips. I was so close to buying this one from Baublebar that is more than double the price (even on sale right now!).

I also wanted to show the back of this top. I love that it cuts lower in the back. Would be a fun shirt to wear with your hair up as well.

Don't forget the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is still going on! I shared my favorite sale items here

Happy Thursday and Happy Shopping!
